Apache Tears

Beautiful, translucent Apache Tears. My father had given me several of these as child, but over the years they became lost. They're small nodules of a certain kind of black Obsidian, a type of volcanic glass that is only found in Arizona, parts of the South Western United States, and in Mexico. It is composed of feldspar, hornblende, biotite and quartz, and was formed by rhythmic crystallization that produces a separation of light and dark materials. Their name comes from an Native American Indian legend. It was said that certain members of this tribe were pursued by the U.S. Cavalry... and although they fought bravely, they were greatly outnumbered. Rather than be captured by the white men, they jumped off a cliff that overlooks Superior, Arizona to their deaths. The distraught women of the tribe cried dark tears of grief... which fell to the earth, and transformed into these dark, spherical shaped stones.
Apache Tears are said to heal grief and be a strong grounding and protective stone to the one who carries them. They are a stone of good luck which promotes emotional balance and protects one from being taken advantage of. They bring to light that which is hidden from the conscious mind. It dissolves suppressed negative patterns and purifies them while promoting forgiveness. It can create a somewhat radical behavior change as new positive attitudes replace old, negative, egocentric patterns. I was missing mine, so I ordered some off of Ebay.... and when the package arrived, instead of the ten I had ordered... I got twenty-one of them. The seller (who is from Phoenix, Arizona) had thrown in an extra eleven. What a wonderful surprise. <3

Holy Hail!

On Sunday, August 21, 2011, I made a trip to Lebanon, Pa. to visit the Expo Center there because they were having a Gem Show that I was very interested in seeing. What a great time! More on that in another post though. The trip home was uneventful... until I got to my exit off of I-81. It started to pour down rain so hard that I couldn't see more than five feet ahead of my car. I decided to pull off the side of the road on the exit for a bit until it let up. Two people had already cut me off getting onto the exit ramp and had almost hit me. Time for a time out! After sitting there for a few minutes, it started to hail. For some reason, I started laughing as I watched the small pieces of ice bouncing off the hood of my car. It sounded very much like someone was pelting the car with hundreds of marbles. I took out my cellphone and took a quick two minute video. P.S. My car was fine. Not a single ding in her that I could see. :)

The chaos only lasted about 10-15 minutes, and then I drove the short distance home. Once there, I ran into my backyard and photographed some of the hail pieces. They were about an inch or so in diameter. I snapped some pictures of my husband, David, holding them with a tape measure for comparison.

I then uploaded the photo to abc27's facebook fan page and much to my surprise... they put it on the 6 and 11 o'clock news! I got a picture of that too. (lol) My two minutes of fame, folks. What can I say.. it made me happy to contribute something that someone found to be useful. :)

And a special thanks to my hubby, David, for being my hand model, and for his quick thinking (trademark of a Gemini man!) of adding the tape measure in the picture! <3

New Blog

This is my third blog actually. On this blog I'd like to blog about ANYTHING. The other two were specifically about Tarot and other metaphysically related stuff. I'm sure there will plenty of that here too, but I want one where anything goes. (lol) Poetry, ranting, silliness, pictures etc. A place where random reigns supreme! A place to be free to be me, no matter what that may be or where it might take me. :)
